welcome
Welcome to the kidney donation website for Dr. Ira Tedoff; and thank you for taking the time to learn about our search for a kidney for Ira. Ira has end stage renal failure, a disease for which there is no cure. Although Ira is currently on the wait list for a non-living donor kidney at Piedmont Transplant in Atlanta, GA, Ira has been told that his wait may be as long as eight years, which is far longer than that which Ira can wait before needing to begin the invasive procedure of dialysis.
Due to a recent dramatic decline in Ira's kidney function, we are hoping to find a donor within the next year (2016/2017). The prognosis for a live kidney transplant – including from a donor who has passed away shortly before the transplant procedure occurs – is far superior to that of a non-living donated kidney. Likewise, a kidney transplant that occurs prior to initiating dialysis also yields a better prognosis for the recipient.
We have set up this site to help potential donors understand the benefits of live kidney donation and the process of becoming a live donor. Here you can read about Ira and his family, as well as learn about the steps that you can take if you wish to explore the possibility of becoming a live kidney donor for Ira.
Individuals located anywhere in the world may undergo testing to determine eligibility for donation. All direct and indirect costs related to testing and donation are covered by the recipient's insurance.
In the tragic event of a loss of a family member, next of kin may also chose to donate their loved one's kidney to Ira. More information on directed donation from a loved one who has passed away can be found here.
We kindly ask that you share our search with your friends, families, and wider social networks. The more people who learn of the need, the greater the chances of finding a donor.
